Its time to move into vertical phase of home construction on this unique piece of Sarasota architecture
Its time to move into vertical phase of construction on this unique piece of Sarasota architecture. Yesterday our team arrived on site bright and early to pour the first living level in this unique piece of Sarasota architecture. This was a unique slab with unique challenges. This particular slab cantilevers out from the stemwall about a foot meaning that any drain line on an exterior wall needs to make it through a web of steel meant to carry this cantilevered slab. Other than that it was a typical pour, if you haven’t seen our posts on slab prep please check it out.
To recap in a nutshell:
Prior to the slab being poured on this Sarasota home construction the drain lines HVAC lines Electrical lines and gas lines are installed as needed. We then have these inspected and poison the soil. Then a vapor barrier is placed over the dirt and steel is installed as directed by the project engineer and all of this is inspected. Concrete mix designs are analyzed for conformance to project specifications and the delivery is set up. Test samples are taken as the trucks arrived and will be analyzed after a predetermined number of days. The concrete is poured and finished as it hardens.

The wood at the edge of the slab is a form for the cantilever

Finishers use various tools to smooth and finish the slab

After a day of curing the form boards will be removed and the slab will be further deailed

Before the end of the day control joints will be cut and sprinklers will be placed on the slab to help it cure properly

If control joints are not cut properly and sprinklers are not used the concrete will cure improperly and crack
