Prepping for our slab pour tomorrow on this waterfront custom home

Indian Beach, Home Construction Project

Prior to pouring slab the stem-wall is back filled and compacted any under slab preparations such as drains, supply lines, electric, gas and HVAC are installed. Once these are installed they are inspected then the holes are filled and slab preparation work begins. Structural columns are carefully laid out and blocked to allow a recess for the base (picture below). Electrical floor outlets are measured with a laser to ensure they will be at the proper height in relation to the finished floor. Thicknesses of finished interior floor and deck materials is determined early so that the finished floor winds up exactly where we intend it to.

After all of this is done the soil is poisoned and a layer of visqueen is laid and taped as a vapor barrier. Sometimes wire mesh is laid but on this project we are using a concrete with a material called fiber mesh.

This is a view of a pad and an elevator pit. In the bckground you can see we used what is called header block, this is a much more efficient way of forming slabs requiring less labor and is more cost effective with no downside
